Gunther Schuller has written the jazz piece for band that we've been waiting for, and it's available in a fine performance! Blue Dawn into White Heat swings, and includes improvisations by the trombone, tenor sax, and piano soloists. If you've played or heard some of Schuller's more somber pieces like Meditation, this is a whole different thing. It is the title piece of a superb 2-CD wind ensemble collection from the University of Minnesota.
