Joaquín Rodrigo

Overview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links

Born: November 22, 1901, Sagunto, Valencia, Spain
Died: July 6, 1999, Madrid, Spain

Joaquín Rodrigo is best known for his Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar. His Adagio for Wind Orchestra, one of the American Wind Symphony commissions, is a beautiful addition to the repertoire. It is good to see it finally getting the CD attention it deserves! The Cincinnati performance was the work's commercial CD premiere, and is part of a great program including works by Husa and Maslanka. It is now joined by the Georgia recording, which I have not yet heard.
