Ottorino RespighiOverview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links
Finally! One of the most unfairly neglected works in the band repertoire receives its first commercial recording available in the USA. Huntingtower was one of the early commissions by Edwin Franko Goldman and the American Bandmasters Association. Perhaps people were disappointed that this late work by Respighi does not have the fireworks of The Pines of Rome. Instead, this eight-minute work is primarily slow, dark, and moody, with a contrasting faster middle section. The return of the slow material is heartbreakingly gorgeous. We have waited over 20 years for a commercial CD of this wonderful piece, and Marosi and company deliver a performance worthy of the wait. If you love original, romantic music for band, we recommend getting this CD of French and Italian works for symphonic band without delay! Recordings
