Mozart's Serenade No. 10, K. 361 (K. 370a), also known as the "Gran Partita," is one of the foundations of the wind repertoire. It is the piece that Fennell said inspired him to form the Eastman Wind Ensemble, providing an example of how a serious repertoire for winds could be established and nurtured. The Serenade is one of Mozart's most extended instrumental works, lasting about 50 minutes in performance.

As befits its stature, there are more choices for this Serenade than anything else on eConcertBand.com--and this is still a selected list. We have included a couple of complete wind music sets (a 6-CD set on Philips with Marriner's K. 361, and a 3-CD set on London conducted by Brymer) and several budget CDs (the German Wind Soloists on Naxos; the Albion on Hyperion/Helios, the New York Philomusica Winds's 2-CD Vox Box; the Craft on Sony). The rest include other critically acclaimed recordings, as well as recordings that are part of prominent wind ensemble series.

Of these, I've heard the Mackerras and Fennell, and can highly recommend the Mackerras. I love Fennell's recordings, but I find the Mozart to be the least successful recording I have heard from the great man's baton. This is a common sentiment as you can see from the Fanfare reviews. Marriner gets raves from many Fanfare critics, but currently his performance is only available in the 6-CD set. Check out the reviews and get some other opinions to help guide you!
