Howard Hanson

Overview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links

Born: October 28, 1896, Wahoo, Nebraska, USA
Died: February 26, 1981, Rochester, New York, USA

Howard Hanson's band pieces are a small part of his overall work, especially compared with his Symphonies. But they are still delightfully romantic, melodic works with great appeal. Two of the most popular works are now on CD, including his "greatest hit" for band, Chorale and Alleluia. The Keystone performance is fine, but someday it would be nice if the Fennell/Eastman mono recording ever made it to CD. I have not yet heard the Rutgers recording of Laude.
