Born: December 10, 1913, Richmond Hill, New York, USA
Died: February 21, 1996, Orlando, Florida, USA
Morton Gould's works for band are a major contribution to the literature, and
a good portion of them are now available on CD. His two-movement Symphony No. 4
for Band, "West Point," is the most significant piece, featuring a
marching machine in the scoring (unfortunately replaced by stomping feet in the
otherwise wonderful Fennell recording). The Ballad for Band may be the
most melodic of these works, and is given a lovely rendition in Corporon's
recording.
