One of America's lesser known neo-romantic composers, Flagello contributed two great works to the band/wind ensemble repertoire: his Symphony No. 2 and Odyssey. The one CD in print of the Symphony No. 2 is not the world's greatest performance, but good enough to communicate this wonderful music. It is also coupled with some fine vocal, orchestral, and piano works from Flagello. With all the band recording going on today, someday someone has got to revisit this marvelous pair of deep, dark works and give them the definitive performances they deserve. This is such a beautiful work that it is well worth getting this recording until that day arrives!
