Eric Ewazen

Overview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links

Born: 1954, Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Eric Ewazen's Shadowcatcher is a ravishing concerto for brass quintet and band, later transcribed for orchestra. This is the original band version is a top-notch performance. The piece is inspired by photographs by Edward Curtis of native American Indians (the cover photo provides the title for the last movement), but it hardly relies on its programmatic aspects for its beautiful effect. This is a major addition to the concert band repertoire, and it is well coupled on CD with works by William Schuman and Mel Powell.
