Norman Dello Joio

Overview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links

Born: January 24, 1913, New York, New York, USA

Norman Dello Joio is another popular composer of highly melodic works for band. You will see in the reviews that Fanfare's Walter Simmons is not a fan of this composer, but that should not stop you from enjoying his music. Variants on a Medieval Tune was one of his first works for band and remains one of the most popular. The Fennell/Dallas recording of this composition is probably the best starting point for Dello Joio's recorded band works.
