Anton Bruckner

Overview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links

Born: September 4, 1824, Ansfelden, Austria
Died: October 11, 1896, Vienna, Austria

Bruckner's Mass No. 2 in E minor is a double rarity: a significant 19th century work for wind ensemble, and a significant work for chorus and wind ensemble. The 8-part choral writing in the Mass is gorgeous. Many of the recordings couple the Mass with some of the a capella Motets. Rilling couples it with the Te Deum, while Polyanskii's release couples it with the Mass in C Major. The Bernius is a beautiful recording, but Fanfare has said fine things about the Polyanskii and Rilling performances as well.
