Alban Berg

Overview - Recordings - Scores - Books - Links

Born: February 9, 1885, Vienna, Austria
Died: December 24, 1935, Vienna, Austria

The Chamber Concerto is one of Berg's major works and thus makes for a landmark in the wind ensemble repertoire. It's a complex piece, and Boulez's recording makes a fine introduction to it. It's coupled with several Stravinsky pieces including the Ebony Concerto. The performance and the sound are both first rate. Hindemith's recording is taken from a mono broadcast in 1959, coupled with his own Symphony in B Flat. There are other recordings available, but these are the ones that are coupled with other wind works.
